To discuss training and more.
I started dabbling in business on the canine front during my student days, when as a psychology (human) undergrad I began making dog bandanas and selling them on a website I created myself.
After achieving my first class honours psychology degree I went on to study for a post graduate diploma in companion animal behaviour counselling, inspired by the needs of my own SBT, Jasmin, and the fascinating world of dog training and behaviour really got its claws into me. I began offering dog training classes and dog walking services – and from there was no looking back.
I completed my APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers) assessment to become an accredited Animal Training Instructor. I then went on to complete the assessment for the APBC (Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors) to become an accredited Clinical Animal Behaviourist. Both assessment processes are very rigorous to ensure behaviourists and trainers meet a high standard of ethical standing, competency and professionalism.
I’m proud to say that I’m now an APDT assessor myself, as well as an official evaluator for the APBC (Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors), and a full member of PACT (the Professional Association of Canine Trainers), playing an important role in bringing new qualified dog behaviour and training specialists of a high standard into the field.
Back in 2013 Dan and I opened a dog training centre, with a pet shop on site, in a converted warehouse on the Woodcock Industrial Estate in Warminster.
Dan had family connections in the dog food wholesale business, so we were inspired to set up an e-commerce store to complement our highly successful training enterprise and physical shop.
Dan looks after the administrative side of the business and maintains our retail operations, hand-picking all our products from more than 20 suppliers who we now have on board.
As for the puppy and dog training sessions and behaviour consultations – I now have a full team of support staff (including two qualified dog trainers) to help cope with the demand. We always have a waiting list and regularly enjoy training our clients who are on puppy number two or even three!
When we’re not enjoying ourselves with our canine clients, both Dan and I enjoy getting on the road on our motorcycles and feeling the wind in our hair. We are also parents to two very bright (and hilarious!) daughters.
Our dog behaviour specialist at Charismatic Pets is Charis Vincent, who was inspired to work with dogs by her first pet, Jasmin the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Charis has gained an impressive list of academic and practical qualifications, achievements and accreditations in her field, and remains passionate about her profession, dedicated to the well-being of dogs and their owners.
While her husband, Dan, manages the on-site pet shop in Warminster, and the e-store online, Charis and her full team of support staff get on with the job of starting puppies off on the right paw, and turning difficult dogs into well-mannered, friendly and beautifully behaved pets.
Since the Behaviour & Training Centre opened in 2013 puppies and dogs of all ages and stages have come to us for training, socialisation and support from across Warminster and the surrounding area, including Westbury, Frome, Devizes, Melksham, Trowbridge, Radstock and Salisbury.
